The incident occurred in Westport around 3;15 a.m., Sunday, March 10.
According to the Connecticut State Police, Cory Gomes. age 22, of Fairfield, was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes on I-95 near Exit 17 in Westport in a Honda CRV when he drove through a construction area and crashed.
While speaking with Gomes, who was slightly injured, troopers said his eyes appeared bloodshot and detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from within the vehicle.
Troopers administered field sobriety tests at the scene, which were not performed to standard, state police said.
Gomes was taken into custody and transported to Troop G, where he was processed and charged with:
- DUI/drugs and/or alcohol
- Reckless endangerment
- Driving the wrong way on the highway
- Reckless driving
He was later released on a $2,500 cash/surety bond and is scheduled for arraignment at Stamford Superior Court, on Tuesday, April 16.
